Nirvair is the next attribute of the ultimate reality or the true reality conceptualized by Guru Nanak. It stands for 'devoid of Enmity.' The ultimate reality and its law are enemy to no one. They are neutral, impartial and non-discriminating.
Three Dimensions- This attribute has three dimensions. First, the ultimate reality is without enmity to anyone or anything. Its operations are uniform insofar as they affect all in an equal manner under similar conditions. All those who jump from a great height without parachute must die of the fall. All those who jump into deep waters without knowing the art of swimming must die of drowning unless rescued. Those involved in head-along collision on the road must die of the head injuries suffered in the accident. Similarly, the phenomena of rain, flood, sunshine, earthquake, summer, winter, time, distance, gravitation etc. affect everybody uniformly provided the conditions are the same. No amount of devotion, prayers and rituals can change the uniform effect of these phenomena even minutely. The supreme law does not discriminate between a good person and a bad person, an honest person and a dishonest person, and a believer and a non-believer, as people classify them. All of them get drenched when made to stand in the downpour and none of them can read without light in the darkness. The truth does not favor anybody. It is equidistant from all.

Does not do Favors- Secondly, the statement ‘not indulging in enmity’ with anybody conversely means ‘not being favorable’ to anybody. Showing favors to some is the same thing as being inimical to the others, for prejudice is a light form of enmity. The truth is amoral as it is above moral considerations. It is not so in the case of humans who have multiple moral preferences available to choose from. In fact, moral and ethical issues are entirely a human concern. The human beings need them to build their ecology in terms of society and culture, which differ from place to place. Every society has its own moral principles in terms do and do not; some of them having the sanctions of its state laws. The law of the ultimate reality does not punish violations of moral and ethical principles but the societies and the states do for these violations belong to their domain. A thief does not land in jail automatically, until the law enforcement authorities of the states lodge him there for infringement of their law. Those involved in bigger thefts like frauds and scams may not even be charged with any crime in some states if they happen to be political bigwigs. The law of the ultimate reality does not directly come forward to chastise them, though many people mistakenly believe so.
Based on Observation- It is a matter of daily observation that the higher animals in the food chain eat the lower ones. But no one ever observes the supreme law coming to protect the hapless victims from the predators. No one ever raises a moral finger at the cat devouring the rat. Even the scientists believe that the food chain theory is a justified practice in the animal world and they accept it as a law of nature. The law of survival of the fittest is also rooted in this scientific realization. The scientists are not wrong in their view; in fact it is their way of accepting that the supreme law is impartial or nirvair. It was an acute observation of Guru Nanak who hypothesized long time back that the truth is non-prejudiced. After centuries of verification today, the scientists accept it as a valid attribute of the ultimate reality, which they call "nature."
Positive and Progressive- Thirdly, nirvair stands for “positive action or progress.” The ultimate reality is not purposely inimical to its creation. In the absence of the negativities of enmity and discrimination, what prevails is the panorama of persistent positivity. It is a display of support for the creation everywhere which carries it forward in the direction of growth. From the time the Earth was a ball of fire to the time when it became a home to civilized humanity, there has been a steady progress towards breaking new grounds in the march forward. The theory of evolution shows how man came into existence after passing through many stages of development from the lower forms of living organisms to the mature Homo sapiens. Never in the history of life on this Earth did this evolution stop or backfire. Natural calamities like earthquakes, diseases, famines, floods, fires and wars intervened but the creation continued to evolve and grow in the forward direction. The orientation of the movement has always been positive and progressive, i.e., from lower to the higher stages of existence and from simple form to the complex. The truth neither indulges in willful annihilation nor tolerates regressions. By any stretch of imagination it is not nihilist. It always ensures a law governed, positive, progressive and forward-oriented growth of the multi-layered natural phenomenon.
Abundant Support- This attribute of the ultimate reality described by Guru Nanak finds abundant support in the history of the universe and the life on this planet. If the ultimate reality had not been nirvair (non-inimical) to the creation as conceived by him, the universe would not have come into existence at all, or it would have partially perished or would have altogether ceased to exist soon after its emergence.
